A handout for the parents who ask about focus

Every week a parent asks the same question: homework that should take 20 minutes takes an hour, and they have already tried nagging, timers and taking the devices away. This sheet is something to give at the end of a lesson. It explains, in one page, what to try tonight and what Concen is.

Concen is a daily focus session for children aged 8 to 12. A session is a 5-minute concentration warm-up game, then a 20-minute timed focus block on the child’s real homework. A plain record shows the parent how long their child can stay on task. The first session is free and needs no account, so a family can find out tonight whether it helps. It is a focus habit tool, not a treatment, and families of children with ADHD are welcome.

Print the sheet below, write your name on the line, and give it to the parents who ask. Nothing is required from you afterwards.

A note for parents, from your child’s tutor or teacher

Homework that should take 20 minutes should not take an hour. If your child drifts, gets up, or starts the same line twice, the habit of focus can be practised. The practice is short, timed blocks on the real homework.

What to try tonight

  1. Start with 5 minutes of quiet concentration: a puzzle, a memory game, or copying a pattern — not a screen.
  2. Then 20 minutes on the real homework, timed, with one planned break in the middle.
  3. Write down how many minutes your child stayed on task.

What Concen does

Concen does this with you: a 5-minute warm-up game, then a 20-minute timed focus block on the real homework. Gentle cues guide your child back, and a plain record shows how focus grows week by week. It runs in the browser on the family tablet or laptop. The first session is free; after that it is $9 a month. Families of children with ADHD are welcome — Concen is a focus habit tool, not a treatment.
